“Made in China” has become a symbol for China as the world’s workshop. Chinese manufacturing for export processing has become an essential and problematic part for the national and global economy. Labour rights violations are endemic and heavy political repression make it difficult for workers to fight for their rights and interests.
In this study we look at China’s “flagship sector” for export: electronics. We screened about 40 Chinese final assembly and ODM manufacturers that are named in the public supplier lists of Dell and HP.
Together with Electronics Watch we analyze about 1.4 million posts from workers and other stakeholders. The report informs about unlawful and unfair practices, looks at social risk trends and presents a new approach to measure and compare online grievances.
